The Plague that Struck the Justice League!
Justice League of America #44
May 1966
In a Nutshell
The Justice League’s battle with the Unimaginable in JLA 42 has unanticipated consequences, as Green Lantern, the Flash, Batman and the Atom have doubled in size. It turns out the fix is to do nothing at all.
For reference, this issue is the source of this infamous meme:
Roll Call
Disguised as an alien physician, the Unimaginable sends the League on a pair of decoy missions to prevent the afflicted team members from resting, which would cure their condition. Though most of the team participates in these missions, they are just a distraction, and do not contribute to resolving the primary problem.
- Batman deduces the Unimaginable’s disguise, as he makes Earth references the alien Doctor Bendorion would not know about.
- The Flash sabotages the Unimaginable’s death ray.
- Superman punches the alien, ending his threat.
The Scorecard
With only three team members making meaningful contributions, the Flash is able to take sole possession of second place once again.
