Four Worlds to Conquer!

Justice League of America #26

March 1964

In a Nutshell

Despero is back and looking for revenge. He’s not particularly good at focusing his revenge, so he creates three alternate Earths to get revenge on. The Justice League overcome three fake Desperos on these created worlds, then defeat the original by knowing their own backstories.

Roll Call

  • Snapper Carr calls in the team this issue after being artificially aged by Despero.
  • Wonder Woman, Green Arrow and the Atom succumb to a trap and are likewise aged, which keeps them out of the first mission in the story.
  • Aquaman, Batman, the Flash, the Martian Manhunter and Green Lantern seek the cause of their teammates’ aging, and are transported to three duplicate Earths Despero has created.
  • The Flash helps a race of intelligent dinosaurs defeat their version of Despero.
  • Green Lantern and Batman do the same for a race of intelligent insects.
  • Aquaman and J’onn J’onzz help out on a marine world.
  • Superman does not show up for this mission, although Despero does impersonate him. Wonder Woman exposes him, earning her contribution credit.

The Scorecard

This is first time Wonder Woman has not appeared on a JLA cover, meaning Green Lantern is now the sole Leaguer to have a perfect record for cover appearances. Superman’s absence from the issue has allowed Aquaman to catch up to him once again.
