Last Case of the Justice League!
Justice League of America #12
June 1962
In a Nutshell
Once again, Snapper Carr’s involvement with the League appears to be common knowledge, as Doctor Light enlists him to document the story of how he destroyed the Justice League. This turns out to be premature as, for the second issue in a row, Superman and Batman pull the old cross-dressing gag to confound him. But turnabout is fair play, as the JLA’s own victories over Doctor Light are revealed to be mirages.
Roll Call
There’s not a lot of credit to dole out this issue. The first half of the book involves the League finding themselves marooned on alien planets selected as personal death traps. In the second half, their apparent victories over Doctor Light turn out to be illusions.
- Superman deserves Saving the Day credit this issue. He is the one who discovers his fellow Leaguers are in trouble. It’s his idea to swap costumes with Batman, tricking Doctor Light into sending him to the wrong doom world. And he nearly single-handedly rescues the rest of the team from their death traps.
- Green Lantern also gets a contribution point, as he captures the real Doctor Light, foiling his plan to enslave the world.
- While the rest of the team all show up, none of their actions actually contribute to Doctor Light’s defeat.
The Scorecard
There’s bad news for Aquaman this issue. The Sea King loses his perfect score for cover appearances here, and this is a trend that is only going to get worse. Green Lantern takes sole possession of the top contribution rating. And thanks to his Saving the Day bonus point, Superman has finally caught up to Snapper Carr’s level of usefulness.
